PM asks BCL leaders to continue studies alongside politics

DHAKA, July 12 (BSS) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today advised the leaders and workers of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) to acquire knowledge and leadership quality as well aimed at building themselves as capable future leaders.

"You have to continue your studies alongside student politics towards building a prosperous Bangladesh with spirit of the country's Great War of Liberation following the political ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," she added.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing the newly elected office bearers of Bangladesh Chhatra League, delegates and councillors as they met her at her Ganobhaban official residence here this evening.

Laying emphasis on educated and prudent leadership in running the country, Sheikh Hasina, also the President of ruling Awami League, said, "Illiterate leadership can only plunder public money rather than giving the people something positive."

The Prime Minister told the Chhatra League leadership to work with a sacrificing mindset following the political ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"You have to keep in mind that actual joy comes from sacrifice not from getting something. It does not matter what you get or not. But, it matters what you can give the people," she said.

Referring to the sacrifice and struggle of Bangabandhu for the cause of the nation, the Prime Minister said only the leadership which is built through sacrifice and struggle can give something positive to the people.

In this context, she advised the BCL leaders and workers to learn from the life and struggle of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who dedicated himself to the welfare of the Bengali Nation.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, a noted IT specialist and computer scientist and son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, newly elected BCL President Badiuzzaman Sohag and General Secretary Siddique Nazmul Alam, BCL DU unit President Mehedi Hasan, General Secretary Omar Sharif and outgoing president of Chhatra League Mahmud Hasan Ripon addressed the function while outgoing general secretary Mahfuzul Haider Chowdhury Roton conducted it.

The Prime Minister advised the BCL workers to stay away from
greediness of accumulating huge money and property through illegal means saying such type of greed destroys inner instinct of human being.

"You have to be guided by the ideology of works of great man like Bangabandhu who did not think about money and property. He (Bangabandhu) always thought about the wellbeing of the countrymen," she added.

Sheikh Hasina said Chhatra League had to run organisational activities under various obstacles after the brutal assassination of Father of the Nation. But, we could go forward due to a number of prudent and ideal leaders of the party, she added.

Referring to political ups and downs in the country, she said Bangladesh could not achieve desired development during the last 40 years of independence due to absence of uninterrupted democracy.

She called upon all concerned to remain alert so that none can play with the fate of the people and interrupt the ongoing democratic environment in the country.

"My politics is to improve the lot of the people," she said and called upon the BCL leaders to supplement the government efforts in strengthening democracy in the country.

The Prime Minister thanked all councillors and delegates to elect their future leadership through direct voting.

Earlier, the newly elected BCL president and the general secretary presented a bouquet to the Prime Minister.
