Mirsarai mourns death of 44 students

CHITTAGONG, July 12 (BSS)-The people of Mirsarai spent the day mourning the tragic death of 44 students in the Monday's worst tragic road crash on the first of the three-day mourning program today.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Industries Minister Dilip Barua who visited the grief stricken school and homes of some of the victims in Mirsarai upazila could not but shed tears when they consoled a crowd of mourners at Abu Torab High School this morning.

" We the entire nation including the honourable President and the prime minister mourn and are shocked at the tragic end of our many children," both the ministers said while conveying sympathy to the members of the bereaved families.

Addressing the condolence meeting at Abu Torab High School premises Education minister said a monument will be erected at Mirsarai after the memories of the 44 school students of Abu Torab.

Thousands of people from the surrounding areas, government officials, representatives of the district administration, guardians and the locals attended the condolence meeting today to mourn the deaths of 44 students.

Family members of the Victims, students, teachers and the
locals wearing black badges, thronged the rally, organised as
part of the three-day mourning programme announced by the local
administration.

Meanwhile, Mayani Union Parisad Chairman Kabir Ahmed Nizami
filed a case against the truck driver Mofizuddin with Mirarsari
thana this morning .

Education Minister Nahid and Industries Minister Dilip Barua
also declared that TK 30,000 would be given to each of the
families of the deceased apart from the government's TK 20,000
assistance as pledged on Monday by Primary and Mass education
Minister Dr Afsarul Ameen.

The education ministry will provide TK 20,000, while TK
10,000 will be managed from government funds, the industries
minister added. They also declared that TK 5,000 would be given
to each of those injured.

In addition to this, local lawmaker Engineer Mosharraf
Hossain announced to give TK 5,000 to each of the families who
lost their kids.

In one of the country's worst tragedies 44 students including
41 school children, two college students and another man died
when a mini-truck carrying them plunged into a roadside ditch
filled with water at Saidali near Abu Torab Bazaar at Mirsarai on
Dhaka- Chittagong High way on Monday noon.

The students were mostly from Abu Torab Bohumukhi High
School, Abu Torab Govt Primary School, Abu Torab Fazil Madrasa
and DMD Kamal Uddin College.
