Home ministry to propose closure of schools & colleges during Ramadan

DHAKA, July 14 (BSS) -The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to propose the concerned ministries to close down schools and colleges in the capital during the upcoming month of Ramadan to keep the city free from traffic congestion.

"Additional forces from the police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar and Coast Guard would be deployed at all strategic points of the country during the month of Ramadan," Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun today said while briefing journalists after presiding an inter- ministerial meeting on law and order at her ministry here.

The meeting was addressed, among others, by Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, MP, Advocate Sanjida Khatun, MP, Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder, Commerce Secretary Golam Hossain, Inspector General of Police Hassan Mahmood Khandker, Director General (DG) of RAB Md Mokhlesur Rahman, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Benazir Ahmed and senior officials from different ministries.

Advocate Sahara Khatun told the journalists that these special measures would be taken during the coming Ramadan considering immense sufferings caused to the city dwellers due to traffic jam in the past in different areas of the country especially in the capital.

The ministry will also propose the authorities concerned to keep normal the supply of electricity, gas and water during the Ramadan, she said adding that they will also make request for not illuminating any buildings or establishments during the fasting month.

Six new wreckers will also be used in removing obstructions
from the highways adjoining the capital at that time, she added.
