Mosharraf for coordinated effort to stop hazardous child labour

DHAKA, July 12 (BSS)-Labour, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandoker Mosharraf Hossain today urged all concerned to extend cooperation for removing hazardous child labour from the country as it is not possible for the government alone to do.

"The mind set of the entrepreneurs should also be changed with the progress of economic development.

We should not compel a child to do work which is not befitting for my own son," he said inaugurating a workshop at a local hotel here.

Labour and overseas employment ministry organized the consultation workshop aimed at formulating a plan to implement national labour policy 2010.

Acting secretary of the ministry Shafique Alam Mehedi presided over the function while ILO country director Andrei Bogui , social welfare secretary Ranjit Kumar Bishwas and Pro-vice chancellor of BRAC university Prof. M Golam Samdani Fakir, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Expressing optimism about achieving success in this field, the minister also admitted that many children are involving themselves in the hazardous works for earning bread as the country has not enough employment opportunities.

"The government has taken initiatives to build up skilled manpower imparting proper training so that they find employment opportunities," he said adding Taka 63 crore has been allocated for this sector this year.
