President urges Consuls to work for increasing foreign trade

DHAKA, July 13 (BSS) - President Zillur Rahman today urged Honorary Consuls in Bangladesh of different countries to work for increasing volume of foreign trade through portraying country's positive image abroad.

The President made the call while a six-member delegation of the Forum of Consuls in Bangladesh (FCB) led by its Chairman AKM Shahidul Islam, Honorary Consul of Malaysia, paying a call on him at Bangabhaban here.

During the meeting, President Rahman said many countries of the world have no clear idea about favourable socio-economic situation, economic potentiality, investment environment, skilled and unskilled manpower and willingness of the Bangladesh government.

"As Honorary Consuls, display positive image of Bangladesh and contribute in further strengthening bilateral and economic relations between Bangladesh and other countries," he said.

Zillur Rahman also urged the Consuls to work for the welfare of the common people of Bangladesh. "It's your duty to look after our huge manpower working in the respective countries, you are representing here," the President said.

The delegation members apprised the President of various activities of the forum.

They said they are planning to organize a regional conference of Honorary Consuls in Dhaka soon.

The delegation was comprised with Honorary Consuls Salauddin Kashem Khan of Turkey, Asif A Chowdhury of Chili, Qazi Shamsul Haque of Kyrgyzstan, Golam Faruk Ahmed of Belgium and Syed Quader Iqbal of Serbia.

Secretaries concerned of the President's Office were present.
