President for involving more students in scouts movement

DHAKA, July 14 (BSS) - President Zillur Rahman today called for involving more students in scouts movement through making it more popular and dynamic considering its significant role in society building endeavor.

"There are ample opportunity to increase number of scouts as presently only 11 lakh out of around three crore eligible students are involved in scouts movement," he said while addressing the 40th annual general meeting of Bangladesh Scouts National Council at Osmani Memorial Hall here.

President Zillur Rahman said the organizing structure of scouts has been extended from national to upazila level. "So there is more opportunity to expedite the scouts movement," he said.

Praising the Scouts movement in the country, Zillur Rahman said the members of Scouts are playing a constructive role in building the young generation as man of good character, self reliant, patriotic and ideal citizens.

The President expressed his satisfaction over implementation of two projects - 'Human Resource Development through Scouts' and 'Cub Scouts Extension in Primary Schools' funded by Ministry of education and Ministry of Primary and Mass education.

"These programmes will further expedite the scout movement across the country," he said.

President Rahman hoped that Bangladesh Scouts would be able to achieve its targeted goal through proper implementation of its
national strategic plan for 2006-2013.

The President assured his all out cooperation to the Bangladesh Scouts to host the '24th Regional Scout Conference of Asia Pacific Region' here in 2012.

Referring to Digital Bangladesh programme for building an IT-based prosperous Bangladesh by 2021, the President asked the young generation to be active in achieving the goal through enriching them in IT knowledge.

At the ceremony, five scouts were awarded 'Silver Tiger' and 16 'Silver Hilsha', which are marked as the highest level of award for the Bangladesh scouts.

Congratulating the award winners, the President, who is also the Chief Scout of Bangladesh, said today's recognition would help the award recipients in bringing more dynamism in Scouts movement in future.

President of Bangladesh Scouts Momtajul Islam and Chief National Commissioner Abul Kalam Azad also spoke on the occasion.

A good number of national and regional scout leaders and members were present on the occasion.
