5305 tonnes of Boro rice procured till July 13

JAMALPUR, July 14(BSS): The Food Department in its drive till July 13 procured 5305 tonnes of Boro rice in the district.

The procurement drive in the district began on June 5 and will continue till September 30. The government fixed the procurement price at Tk 29 for one kilogram of rice.

According to the office of the District Food Controller, 158 rice millers signed contracts with the government for supplying 7207 tonnes of Boro rice in the first phase against the procurement target of 15785 tonnes.

The food office said, on completion of the supply in the first phase, the millers would sign second contract with the government for supplying more.

The upazila- wise break up of target for food procurement is: 7311 tonnes in Jamalpur sadar upazila, 283 tonnes in Madarganj, 1242 tonnes in Sarishabari, 3402 tonnes in Melandaha, 1670 tonnes in Islampur, 644 tonnes in Dewanganj and 1143 tonnes in Bokshiganj.

The District Food Controller said, `we are expecting that procurement target for Boro rice would be fulfilled'.
