Educational institutions mourn death of 43 students

CHITTAGONG, July 13 (BSS)- Schools, colleges and Universities in Chittagong are mourning the death of 44 school students in a road accident in Mirarsarai, in the district on Monday.

National flag and black flag were hoisted at all educational institutions in Chittagong mourning the loss.

Mourning rallies were held at the educational institutions with participants wearing black badges.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased, teachers and students of educational institutions at Mirarsari upazila recalled memories of their dears and students who lost their lives in the accident.

A shade of gloom hangs over the whole area in Mirarsari upazila, on the second day of mourning programme announced by the local administration.

Hundreds of locals, led by the teachers and students wearing
black badges, gathered at Abu Torab Bahumukhi High School, which
alone lost 33 students, in the morning.

One after another, classmates, teachers and relatives of the
deceased took over the microphone and recalled the chats they had
with them in the recent days. Shutters of the shops of Abu Torab
Bazar area remained down from Monday.

Special prayers were held at Abu Torab Mosque for the
eternal peace of the departed souls of the victim students.

Head Mistress of Dr Kastogir Government Girls' High school in
the port city Hasmot Jahan told BSS that students and teachers of
her school took part in the prayers seeking salvation of the
souls of the deceased wearing black badges and observed one-
minute silence in memory of them around 10 am.

Principal of Ispahani Public School and College Mohammad
Mahabubul Alam Chowdhury told BSS that everyone at the school
observed one minute's silence as a mark of respect to the victims
at 9:45am. Later, a special prayer was held. Everyone wore black
badge and a black flag was hoisted in the compound, he added.

Similar programmes were undertaken by many other institutions,
including Chittagong University, Chittagong Veterinary and Animal
University, Chittagong College and Chittagong Government Mohosin
College.

In one of the country's worst tragedies 44 students including
41 minor school students, two college students and a man died
after a mini-truck carrying them plunged into the road side ditch
at Saidali near Abu Torab Bazaar at Mirsarai on Monday noon.

Among the students 33 were from Abu Torab Bohumukhi High
School, four from Abu Torab Govt Primary School, two from Abu
Torab Senior Madrasa and two from Abu Torab Fazil Madrasa.
Besides, there were two HSC students from Prof Kamal Uddin
Chowdhury College.

Source said a total of 12 students, victims of Monday
tragedy, are undergoing treatment at different hospitals and
clinic in the city
