Stocks plunge sparks protest

Investors on Monday took to the streets near Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Bhaban in the capital’s Motijheel area protesting the continuous declining trend in price index in the stock market.

The agitating investors brought out a procession at about 12:30pm and blocked the road, halting traffic on the busy street from Shapla Chattar to Ittefaq intersection.

The traffic movement on the street remains suspended, till filing of the report around 2:00pm, causing huge tailbacks on bustling streets of the capital’s commercial hub Motijheel.

Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.

The general index at the premier bourse lost 98 points to reach 5,919 at 2:00pm when this report was filed.

Of the issues traded, 5 advanced, 235 declined and 13 remained unchanged.
