Durga Puja to be observed in 425 Mondaps in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Sept 22 (BSS)- Necessary preparations are going on in full swing for celebration of the Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu Community in the city and nine upazilas of the district at present.

According to the officials concerned, Durga Puja will be held in 425 Mondaps in the district including 69 in the metropolis this year.

Meanwhile, the district administration has sanctioned 214 metric tons of rice for the puja mondaps to help the celebration process.

A coordination meeting was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Wednesday aimed at making the celebration a total success amidst a coordinated effort.

With Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hannan in the chair, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen) Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, RMP Assistant Commissioner Humayun Kabir, ASP Belayet Hoossain, RAB-5 DAD Kaiser Ahmed, Topan Sen of Hindu Religious Council, District unit president of Puja Uddjapan Committee Birendra Nath Sarker, General Secretary Banajit Qumar Kabiraj and city President Bimal Sarker spoke on the occasion.

The meeting stressed the need for celebrating the festival in a free atmosphere amid security and safety.

Law and order agencies and administration will take all out measures to ensure the festival of Bengali Hindus.

At present, completion of goddess is underway in several places including Dharmasava. Now, decoration of deity with colour and erection of mondaps is going on amid enthusiasm and fanfare. Many interested people irrespective of religious beliefs are seen visiting the places to see decoration works.

Meanwhile, the law enforcing agencies are keeping vigil in the premises.

On the other hand, Hindu Communities are painting and cleaning their houses and business places. Mostly, they have completed purchase of clothing during the last Eid-ul-Fitre season.
